Santa Cruz Mountain Engagement Photography – Heather & Tom

California is filled with wonderful locations to photograph engagement sessions and the Santa Cruz mountains are one of my favorites. The green hills in the springtime are just gorgeous. There is nothing quite like the sun setting over the hazy Santa Cruz hills.

Heather and Tom live up in these beautiful hills and were kind enough to invite Jim Vetter Photography up to shoot their engagement photos.

Heather and Tom grew up in the same little town and don’t remember a time that they didn’t know each other. They were good friends for years and gradually realized that they were soul mates and were meant for each other.

Tom proposed to Heather down in Monterey where they were attending a cowboy poetry festival. Now, if you’re like me, you hadn’t even heard of cowboy poetry until now. Well, Heather and Tom shared some with me and I can tell you that its kind of like country music without the music – stories of love, heartache and possibly some pickup trucks but I didn’t hear about any of that.

The property where Heather and Tom live is amazing! The entire engagement session was shot on their land. The house has so much rustic character – just like it inhabitants.

Heather was proudly wearing a new pair of cowboy boots that she recently purchased specifically for the wedding. See more of these lovely boots below…

Tom is a firefighter (thank you for your service, Tom!) and Heather helps people through tough times. They are both the kindest souls you could imagine.

Heather insists that she has no experience modeling but Tom and I don’t believe her! I guess some people are naturals.

Tom was nervous going into the engagement session (as most guys are) and wasn’t sure if he’d do much smiling. He certainly had no trouble in front of the camera. They both had a great time and so did I.

Heather has been a horse trainer for years and even involves horses in therapy practice. The mustang on the left below was a wild horse only about a year ago and Heather has turned him into a very gentle creature. These two horses live in the front yard pasture of Heather and Tom’s ranch home.

Heather’s dog, Moon, was not about to leave her side as we shot in the last rays of the setting sun. Although Heather and Tom were telling her to get out of the shot, I think Moon really makes this photograph special. Thanks, Moon

This beautiful country home faces west into the Sana Cruz hills and witnesses the most spectacular sunsets through giant windows. What a place to call home and what a great fit for Heather and Tom.

Congratulations and thank you for your warm hospitality! We can’t wait for the wedding in August ūüôā

South Bay Engagement Photos with Cassie & Eric

San Francisco Bay Area wedding photographer, Jim Vetter Photography recently had the good fortune to work with a beautiful young couple for their engagement photography session. ¬†Cassie and Eric are as sweet as they look and we had a fantastic time in our session on Eric’s family estate in San Martin, California.

These locations are really meaningful to Cassie and Eric because they’ve shared many special occasions on these beautiful hillsides.

We had amazing weather with gorgeous skies right into sunset.  What a joy for a photographer to run wild on a property like this on such a beautiful day.

With multiple wardrobe changes and shooting locations, we had the best time shooting through the late afternoon winter sun.

Can you believe these hills??

I am so grateful to Eric’s family for sharing this incredible property with us for Cassie and Eric’s engagement session.

And, so grateful to Cassie and Eric for being such awesome clients!

Marin Engagement Photos with Alexis and Lorenzo

Engagement photography in Marin county just north of San Francisco is so much fun! ¬†Marin has some of the most wonderful locations in the San Francisco bay area in which to photograph couples for engagements, weddings or anything for that matter. ¬†I just did an engagement photo session with Alexis and Lorenzo who came down from Stockton to be photographed. ¬†I’ll be photographing their wedding in October in Lodi, CA.

Alexis loves the vintage look Robson Harrington Park where we did the session is a perfect fit.  The garden walls are made of old brick that was recovered from buildings demolished in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.   The owner of the park land also owned a large amount of land all around the area and salvaged building materials when old buildings came down.  These materials make for a rustic old world look in this beautiful park setting.

Alexis and Lorenzo originally planned to marry in the summer of 2013 but then decided that they just couldn’t wait so they moved the date up to October 2012. ¬†I was glad to hear this because I can’t wait to photograph the wedding either! ¬†They make such a lovely copule.

Alexis is really my ideal client Рshe loves and values photography and is as excited about her photographs as I am about making them.  So, if you share that love of photography with Alexis, please contact me to photograph your wedding!

I’d like to thank Alexis and Lorenzo for coming all the way down to San Anselmo from Stockton to do their session with me. ¬†You guys rock!

Please share this post with your friends.   Thank you!

Benicia Engagement Photos with Lina and Buddy

Jim Vetter Photography recently did an engagement session in Benicia, CA with a very sweet couple.  I photographed a wedding in Benicia at the Arsenal a couple of years ago but had not seen much of the area.  The Benicia State Recreation Area, as it is called, gave us a great backdrop of rocks, water and sky to create these images.

What started out as a misty, overcast morning turned into a beautifully warm day and afforded us some killer skies!

Buddy is from Hawaii’s Big Island where they will be returning to for the wedding. ¬†Lina has never been to Hawaii and,¬†understandably,¬†cannot wait!

I’ll be photographing Lina and Buddy’s engagement party this weekend and will have more images to share soon!

San Anselmo Engagement Session with Desiree and Nikos

Engagement sessions in Robson Harrington Park in San Anselmo are one of my favorite sessions to do with clients.  The park is so quaint and really lends itself to romantic settings such as engagement sessions.

On August 11th,¬†I’ll be photographing Desiree and Nikos’ wedding at Brix Restaurant in Napa. ¬†They are a really sweet couple and we had a great time at this session tonight. ¬†I can’t wait for the wedding!

A Firefighter’s Engagement: Inverness, California

Jim Vetter Photography did a somewhat unconventional engagement session yesterday for a wonderful pair of Firefighters from Marin County, California.  David is a fireman in Ross, CA and Elizabeth is a volunteer firefighter for the Inverness Fire Department.  They met at a training event and ended up talking for hours afterward and knew they had stumbled across something special.

When Elizabeth told me that she and her fiance were both firefighters, I just knew we would have to get the truck out!  They were so playful all day and the firetruck shots were a blast.  Oh, and special thanks got Fire Chief Jim for getting the truck out and even assisting me by holding my reflector!

After the fire station, we headed up to the spot where David proposed to Elizabeth up on a nearby fire road (of course).  This is a speical spot where they often take long walks together and stop at a little bench with a beautiful view of the valley below.  We did a little reenactment of the proposal as you can see below.  Elizabeth was nearly in tears again Рso sweet!

We finished the session by heading down to Abbotts Lagoon for sunset.¬† What a gorgeous sunset it was too!¬† The entire day was beautiful with the best weather of the year so far. If you’ve never been to Abbotts Lagoon – check it out sometime.¬† Its a breathtaking flat hike.

Thank you to Elizabeth and David for being so much fun!¬† People like them make my job so fabulous.¬† Now I can’t wait for the wedding on May 26th.¬† Watch for that blog post at the end of May!

Golden Gate Park Engagement

Golden Gate Park is such a great place for Engagement Sessions. As a Bay Area Wedding Photographer, I love to take couples to the Conservatory of Flowers and photograph all around that area.

There is a great little tunnel under JFK Drive right off of the big flower bed in front of the conservatory.  Gorgeous light falls into the tunnel and makes for dramatic, romantic photographs.

Also, just next to the gardens is a little grove of young trees that also make a great photo setting.

Here is a slideshow of Jennifer and Mark’s engagement session.¬†¬† Thank you two so much for braving the San Francisco elements to make it happen!
